Description
Sevelamer carbonate is an ion-exchange, non-absorbed polymeric amine that binds phosphate and is meant for oral administration. Unlike other phosphate binders, it does not contain calcium or metal, which can stay in the body. It is also not absorbed; therefore, it does not accumulate in the body. By binding phosphate in the dietary tract and thus decreasing phosphate absorption, it effectively lowers serum phosphate in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients.
